Freezing temperatures are not considered a hardship for everyone. After several nights of sub-zero temperatures and days where the mercury doesn’t rise above freezing, the waters at the port of Hols Dock in Lutheria have frozen solid. While this is bad news for transportation, children are taking advantage of this unusual event to go ice skating. Under the watchful eye of a supervisor, hundreds of children from the city and beyond have come to enjoy the spectacle. Meanwhile, parents are savouring a cup of warm cocoa or glühwein, or even joining in the skating themselves. It is quite rare for the waters to freeze solid enough for walking or skating. A strong current, caused by the spring source below, usually keeps the water moving and the river Holle flowing. It is expected that the freezing temperatures will persist for the coming days, allowing people to skate for a while longer.
