The Silbers agreed to the proposal, and the match between Joël and Esther was arranged. The couple spent several months together to get to know each other, although it was challenging and awkward for them.
Encouraged by their families, Joel and Esther got married on April 5, 1849. Their marriage initially felt forced, especially with Joel (like his father) working most of the time. However, as time passed, the couple gained more respect for each other and their relationship improved.
On January 4, 1853, Joel’s father, was found dead in his bed by his wife. He passed away quietly in his sleep. From that moment on, Joel became the owner of the butchery, and he continued to manage it in the same way his father and grandfather did.
